Migrating shorebirds take flight in Skagit County, Washington at one of the Conservancy’s Farming for Wildlife project sites. Here, farmers are flooding their fields to create new habitat for shorebirds.

I really like the fact that farmers are working with the birds and not against them.

Here is a fantastic video about the Starlings at an RSPB reserve called Otmoor, near Oxford, England.

YouTube user Dylan Winter narrates. He explains how the Otmoor reserve came to be and explains why the starling create such incredible aerial displays.

Towards the end of the video, Dylan says:

And it happens every day, all through the winter, just a couple of miles from my doorstep. How good is that?

Dylan is very lucky to be so close!

A gull steals a GoPro video camera in Cannes, France.

YouTube user opica1983 set the video camera down and a gull quickly grabbed it. The bird flew off with it and travelled briefly over the city. He said he later had to climb a castle wall to get it back.

The birds with arms meme seems to be spreading over the internet again.

Watch an adult male Pileated Woodpecker feed his young one in this short video.

You can tell the adult Pileated Woodpecker is a male by the red stripe on his cheek. On females this stripe is black.

The Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in North America. The bird is nearly 2 feet tall with a wingspan of almost 3 feet. I’m very grateful to see them in my backyard on my suet feeder. I can’t wait until the young ones show up!

Great Northern Loon by Matt MacGillivray

Listen to the surreal sound of a Great Northern Loon out on the water in the early morning in this video by YouTube user StopSmilinItsBlindin.

Known as the Common Loon in North America or the Great Northern Diver and Great Northern Loon in other parts of the world. Whatever you might know the bird as, the sound is the same.

The territorial call of the bird seems to dance on the water through the fog. Just beautiful!

The video was filmed in a neighborhood located in Winnipeg, Canada. It was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show a while back. Recently, I’ve been seeing it shared by many of the people I follow on Tumblr and Twitter.

It’s so cute I had to share it here! I love the sound of their feet as they run by!

Last I checked, he has nearly 20 bird prints for sale in his Flora Fauna: Bird Editions collection. He also has a couple in his Extinct Editions collection. He donates a portion of the profits to animal and environmental charities.

Currently, 6 different iPhone bird wallpapers are available. The easiest way to use them as your wallpaper is to visit Lumadessa’s iPhone background website at http://shop.lumadess.com/pages/iphone on your iPhone or iPod touch. Then place your finger on the image you want and keep it there until a dialogue box appears. Choose “Save Image” and the wallpaper will be saved to your device.

Then just change your wallpaper as you would normally. Click on the Settings icon and choose Wallpaper. The newly downloaded wallpaper should be in your “Camera Roll”.
