How To Track The Oil Spill In The Gulf
The NY Times recently created another interactive way to see the effects of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Last week, NY Times added a new interactive map call Where Oil Has Made Landfall. On this map you can see the location of wildlife areas, marshes and urban areas. The colored dots indicate where oil was recorded on land. When you press play, the map shows you how things change day by day from May 24th to present.
See the Fort Jackson Wildlife Rehabilitation Center right in the middle of it all? This is where the video of Jay Holcomb in the post called How An Oiled Bird is Washed was recorded.
If you haven’t seen the original NY Times interactive map called Where Oil Is In The Gulf, definitely check it out. It’s probably one of the best I’ve seen on the web. You can go back in time to April 22nd to see what the oil spill looked like then. Just like their new map, you can press play to see the oil spill grow to present day conditions. On the right hand side of the page, you see what the different estimates of oil spilled through the current date being viewed are.
