Bob The Eastern Screech Owl
Miami Herald photographers Emily and Walter Michot documented the early days of a young Eastern Screech Owl that took up residence in their backyard.
Emily and Walter initially thought the noises might be coming from a opossum until their children discovered a small gray ball of fuzz perched in the Mango tree on their back deck.
Emily said:
The boys immediately named him Bob — a name they use for just about everything.
They soon realized that this cute little ball of fuzz was an Eastern Screech Owl.
Emily wrote in the Miami Herald:
Over the next few evenings, homework, dishes, and laundry were abandoned and we began “Bob Watch”. We sat quietly out on the deck and watched him come out after sunset and begin screeching for his parents. They swiftly and silently swept in and fed him a diet of lizards and worms.
