Inside A Bird Hospital
Here are the sights and sounds of an IBRRC bird hospital during the rescue of hundreds of birds from a harmful algal bloom in the Pacific Northwest.
No words are needed in the video to explain how important and time consuming this work is.
What you see: our main holding room (and a peek at our laundry room); a bird being examined; a volunteer preparing special liquid food to be administered by a tube; a bird being tubed with warm water to rehydrate him; our second holding room with covered hospital pools; a staff member applying a donut to a bird; a volunteer power washing a net-bottom pen in our large backyard; outdoor pelagic pools (with pelican aviary in the background); birds enjoying a swim in one of the pools.
Most of the birds rescued from the algal bloom have since been released thanks to the hard work by volunteers like the ones in the video above. Organizations such as the IBRRC do great work and need your support. Whether it’s money or time, donate to the IBRRC or a center in your area.
