How To Draw Birds
Many of you take pictures of birds, but have you ever tried to draw them? Check out these tutorials to learn how.
Artist Joumana Medlej has shared tutorials on her website from her book appropriately named Drawing Birds. They are wonderfully illustrated with lots of detailed notes. There are a total of three tutorials online. Part 1 covers the body and leg, the tail, the eye, the head and bill, the wing, flight, and feathers. In Part 2 and Part 3, she covers the differences among a variety of species from all over the world.
In addition to her tutorials, I found her name interesting too. Joumana is an ancient name from the Persian word jumân denoting a precious pearl. Medlej is an Arabic surname meaning “he who travels by night”.
Joumana writes that “a bird’s anatomy is relatively simple to draw”. Her tutorials will definitely make it a lot easier to learn how, but I think it still might take me a little while!
